Why it matters

Healthy soil is the foundation of a healthy garden.

By focusing on soil-first practices, natural inputs, and seasonal growing, participants gain a deeper understanding of how to grow food in a way that supports long-term sustainability.

These are practical homesteading and gardening skills that can be used for a lifetime and applied right at home — whether in a backyard garden, raised bed, patio container, or shared community growing space.

Our connection to the Earth

Caring for Mother Earth, one season at a time.

At MetM, we believe organic gardening is one of the simplest ways to reconnect with the natural world while caring for Mother Earth. By focusing on healthy soil, natural inputs, composting, and seasonal growing, participants learn how small, intentional choices can make a meaningful difference over time.

We encourage growing practices that reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers and harmful pesticides, which can weaken soil health over time and disrupt the living organisms that support plant growth. When soil is cared for naturally, it has a better chance to support stronger plants, healthier harvests, and more nourishing food.

That is why our work begins with the soil.

Healthy Soil = Healthy Harvests™

MetM provides opportunities to get your hands in the soil, build confidence, and enjoy the process of growing food in a way that supports your home garden, your community, and the environment we all share.

Meet the founder

Hello! I'm Melanie.

Founder of MetM Homestead & Learning, I bring more than 15 years of hands-on organic gardening experience in South Florida and a passion for helping others discover the rewards of growing food, building healthy soil, and reconnecting with nature.

My approach combines practical experience, community involvement, and a commitment to helping others gain confidence through hands-on gardening experiences. I believe that with the right guidance, gardening can become approachable, rewarding, and successful for gardeners of all experience levels.

When I'm not in the garden, you'll often find me spending time with my family and Rio, my rescued Husky-Shepherd mix, who was given a second chance and now happily accompanies me on many outdoor adventures.
